《高盛陰謀》熱賣,引起了外國媒體的關注,《國際先驅論壇報》(InternationalHeraldTribune)、美聯社(Associated Press)和美國之音(Voice of America)中文網均有報道。
美聯社說,李德林看來在那些對黑幕情有獨鍾的中國讀者身上「掘到了金礦」,("Li ... appears to have hit pay dirt among Chinese readers with an appetite for the would-be exposes")。美聯社說,近三百頁的《高盛陰謀》「高度戲劇化的描寫」("highly dramatized account"),和美國RollingStone 雜誌去年一篇報道的內容很類似,該篇由Matt Taibbi撰寫的文章,指高盛是:
"... a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money."
美聯社的報道引述內地證券界人士說,《高盛陰謀》讀起來像小說多於真實事件。("It reads like a novel, rather than a real story.")美國之音中文網則引述內地銀行界人士說,「高盛陰謀論」政治色彩過於濃厚,所謂「陰謀」的說法亦太模糊。但李德林在網上討論區堅稱,真實的情況比他所寫的更驚人。
